I was thinking about the example of the Sarah Palin photo shown in class the other day: Yes, emailing these kinds of things pushes them to a typically like-minded group of people, but perhaps using social networks to disseminate that kind of image has a completely different result. Many of my facebook friends are actually quite different from me - co-workers, friends from kindergarten, etc... These weak ties tend to link me to a more diverse group of people than my email list would. A different level of intimacy to be sure. See I'm So Digitally Close To You.
